Taking Action

It is crucial that students are provided with opportunities to reflect on their learning and plan for appropriate action.

Reflective journals can allow students to explore their thoughts on issues and decide upon their own value positions.  They can then make decisions based upon understanding.

Examples of action can include letter writing; petitioning of school, social, local or government organisations; fundraising or charity work; or action as appropriate to an issue eg raising the awareness of the school community
to current topics of discussion in the media.

Principles which underpin action include:

• relevance to students' own experiences
• opportunity to have 'real' impact
• consideration of consequences and sequels
• participation of as many members of the class community
  as possible.
