To successfully use the following Open-IT 'machines' or programs you need to download them to your desktop. They can be downloaded from here, or from the databank in Discover. All files are zipped and will need to be unzipped on your desktop using WinZip. To assist with speed of download the elements have been zipped separately. Jigsaw 1 (for students of any age who can read independently). This great tool can be used for text reconstruction. Teachers and students upload their own text to the 'machine'. The machine will break the text into sections using either paragraphs or sentences, and students have to reconstruct it. All text used in this machine should be saved as a .txt file. Jigsaw 2 (for students of any age who can read independently and understand the use of sentences and paragraphs). This great tool can be used for text reconstruction. Teachers and students upload their own text to the 'machine'. The machine will break the text into sections using either paragraphs or sentences, and students have to reconstruct it. All text used in this machine should be saved as a .txt file. Cloze Machine for PC (for students of any age who can read independently). This great tool is used for online cloze exercises. Teachers and students upload their own text to the 'machine'. They then choose a level of difficulty and the machine will take out a corresponding number of words.
