Limnodynastes tasmaniensis

DESCRIPTION:
Body length to 45mm. Slender, medium size, back smooth pale greyish brown patterned with numerous irregular but clearly defined olive-green spots. Dorsal stripe of fine yellow to orange. Breeding males have orange throat.

HABITAT:
Open forests and woodland and cleared areas. Found near temporary and permananet water, farm dams and roadside ditches; coastal wetlands,

DISTRIBUTION:
Midlands, lowlands, NE and East. Flinders island.

CALL:
Short abrupt 'click' as of two stones struck, slowly and regularly repeated. Calls from the water in spring and summer.

UNUSUAL CHARACTERISTICS:
Unusual call; found in open forests away from water.
