DESCRIPTION:
Body length to 70mm. Large, sharp snouted, spectacular back pattern of brown & golden stripes, long & slender fingers and toes with no webbing.

HABITAT:
Breeds in permanent water, common in dams and swampy ground, abundent emergent vegetation.

DISTRIBUTION:
Very restricted; North coast from Stanley to Cape Grim; NE coast from Weymouth to Cape Portland, and on King island.

CALL:
A short soft 'whuck' irregularly repeated by males call from water while floating.

UNUSUAL CHARACTERISTICS:
Unusual sound and very restricted distribution.
