DESCRIPTION:
Body length to 30mm. Plump with rounded snout, dark brown, often pink concealed flanks and thighs. Underside: irregular brown spots, widely seperated, on a white/grey background. No finger or toe webbing.
HABITAT:
Ground dwelling; dry open forest at low altitude; breeds in lowlying areas which are flooded by winter rains.
DISTRIBUTION:
Reasonably widespread, particularly North and midlands, including the central plateau. Found on King, but not Flinders island.
CALL:
A series of pulsed notes; first 2 or 3 are grating and longer than the rest (Signifera lacks long introductory notes) Cra-a-a-a-ack, cra-a-a-a-ack, craack craack craack
Calls and breeds in autumn.
UNUSUAL CHARACTERISTICS:
Hardly needs water at all. Small and fat!
