Crinea tasmaniensis

DESCRIPTION:
Body length to 30mm. Small inconspicuous, light grey to brown, may have raised ridges or warts, long toes, no webbing. Brilliant red under-thigh colouring may extend to lower abdomen.

HABITAT:
Typically found along shallow streams, likes running water and preferrs undisturbed habitats, both open & forested.

DISTRIBUTION:
Widespread in North and West, but not on either King or Flinders islands; common at high altitudes and on the plateau. Found only in Tasmania

CALL:
A quavering 'bleat' slowly and irregularly repeated; will call from the water’s edge even under snow.

UNUSUAL CHARACTERISTICS:
Can handle snow and the highest altitudes; sounds quite like a sheep.
