HEALTH PROMOTING SCHOOLS is an initiative that focuses on the promotion and encouragement of healthy lifestyles for students, staff and the wider community

It is part of a vision outlined by the Tasmanian Health and Physical Education Curriculum. The vision is that

Schools and their communities:

  • share responsibility for promoting the benefits of healthy living and well-being.
  • need to have shared values in relation to supportive environments, quality teaching and learning about health and active community participation.
  • need to develop a shared approach to promoting in students the key intentions of responsibility, identity, relationships, active participation and wellbeing.

The Health and Physical Education Learning Area is concerned with the establishment of quality teaching and learning and the achievement of student health outcomes.

Both the Health Promoting Schools and Health and Physical Education initiatives share the same vision and concern for a more coordinated approach to the health and well being of all school community members.
