Triabunna District High School 2000

School Profile

 Triabunna is a small District High School with a student population of 180.  The school community represents the merging of diverse industrial, fishing, rural and tourist groups.  The school has strong community links and is particularly proud of the successes experienced with an online centre and the year 11/12 annex.

 

 Getting Started 

We began by:

·        Completing an audit, involving HPS support staff, assessing needs

·        Developed a staged approach with a budget

·        Involving community groups, sponsors and P & F

 Planning

What steps did we follow? 

·        Professional Development for staff (HPS workshops) followed by Peer Leaders’ training camp

 Major Focus 

·        Peer Leader Program – mental well-being focus

·        Healthy breakfast/healthy lunches/special events

·        New playground built

·        Sun-safe program, more shade areas and ‘slip, slop, slap.’

·        Increased student awareness of health issues, mental and physical

 

 Key Results

·        Healthy breakfast and lunches for whole school held

·        Peer Leaders trained ready for 2001

·        Shade structures built, new playground built in October 2000
