School profile 

Richmond Primary School is situated in the historic village of Richmond.  The school of 146 students with a blend of ‘city meeting country’ provides a caring, family environment with a focus on individual needs.  A holistic approach to health promotion is adopted - attending to the physical, social and emotional needs of each student.

 Getting Started 

ˇ     We began by recognising the need for formal planning & documentation in the area of conflict management  

  •  We held staff meetings and consulted with students to discuss what was   needed.  We decided on priorities and areas of focus.

ˇ     We then viewed and shared current materials and decided on relevant resources.

ˇ     Time off class for the team leader was organised. They co-ordinated and completed formal planning & documentation.

ˇ     Budget & PD requirements were determined.

 Planning 

What steps did you follow?

·         Formal documentation of our program was completed.

·         An assessment of our needs was completed.

·         We development of goals and strategies and made links with school targets.

·         We consulted with parents and conducted a special P&F meeting.

·         Information to all families via school newsletter & information booklet was distributed.

 Major focus 

Goals and strategies

Our major focus this year has been conflict resolution.

ˇ       Target – Children will be moving away from negative responses & unresolved conflicts and towards more negotiation and resolutions without adult intervention.

ˇ       Goals – Children will learn to

  - Communicate and work well with others

   - Express feelings constructively

   - Treat people fairly

    - Resolve disagreements peacefully

Key Results 

·         Development of School Conflict Management Program.

·         New set of school rules – used by anyone to help resolve conflict or clarify a situation.

·         Everyone in the school is using the same approach.

·         Students are taught skills to enhance their learning outcomes.

·         Teachers now have more time to concentrate on the quality-teaching program in their rooms.
