Lauderdale Primary School 2000 School Profile Lauderdale Primary School
is a K-6 co-educational government school.
It is situated on the shores of Frederick Henry Bay and Ralphs Bay, 15
minutes south east of Hobart. There
are over 400 families in the school community.
The school enjoys strong support from parents, caregivers and the
community. Getting
Started We established an
‘Active Australia’ committee during 2000 and completed a review of what was
currently happening in relation to Health and PE in our school. We began by sharing the good things that we were doing and
then we identified areas in which we would like to improve.
Our committee consisted of staff, parents and students. Planning Our committee met to
discuss possible directions for 2000. We
invited parents to join our group and then completed the ‘Active Australia
Audit’. This audit focused on
reviewing: §
Supportive ethos and environment §
Curriculum teaching and learning §
School community links Major Focus We agreed that it
was important to address issues strategically and in depth.
Our school has been involved in major curriculum review and renewal and
our priorities have been established in relation to our ‘curriculum for all’
direction. Our major goals and
strategies for 2000 included: ·
Reviewing our daily P E program ·
Reviewing the formalised carnival
program to be more inclusive of all students ·
Involvement of P – 2 in
‘fun’ sporting activities and introduction to athletic events. Key Results Our infant athletic
carnival changed its focus from that of a competitive carnival to a mass
participation carnival. We involved
our Aussie Sports Leaders, students from our local high school and parents to
help us conduct a massive round robin tournament of activities.
We believe this format encouraged more active participation from our
students. During 2001 we will review
our daily PE program and we are planning a Prep-2
‘Fun Sports Day’ for Term 2. |
