Dodges Ferry Primary School 2000

School Profile

Dodges Ferry Primary School is set near the beach in the seaside township of Dodges Ferry.  The school has a current enrolment of approximately 460 students K – 6.  The school is surrounded by wetlands and beautiful grounds.  Built in 1987, the school student numbers have grown from 46 – 460 over that period.

What we have achieved in 2000

 1.     Sunsmart – new tables in 5/6 area were purchased with our $500 award from 1999, the next step is to purchase shade umbrellas and shade sails.

§          Prep area - $11000 has been raised to develop a shade structure in our Prep playground area (P & F)

§          Sunsmart – Skin Cancer Awareness Day – we sold $214 worth of stickers and also held a crazy hat day to promote awareness.

§          In 2001 we would like to encourage the wearing of broad-rimmed hats as opposed to caps.

2.     Family Planning – we held a week program for our 5/6 students, which was very positive and beneficial.

We also had a parent information evening where we had nearly 30 parents; this was very successful and allowed our parents to feel comfortable with what this program offers their children.

3.     The running of our canteen is improved with a better variety of healthy foods and drinks.  It is also open before school to cater for breakfast needs.

'Cool canteens' is a 2001 priority.

 4.     Community Focus – Our wetlands project-worked with ATCV, Green Corp, Parks and Wildlife and Landcare Group to restore our wetlands

5.     First Aid – New staff members have been trained in first aid procedures.

6.     Promotion of School Uniform – In the last week of November we hosted a P – 6-fashion parade of our school uniform supported by our P & F.  We modelled the broad rimmed hat also.

7.     Physical Education Program – continues to promote physical fitness, to be improved with more access to equipment at recess and lunch times in 2001.

8.     SSE – we have elected a team manager to facilitate the development of a comprehensive Supportive School Environment Policy.  To support this we have had staff input and will continue this work throughout 2001.

9.     Aussie Sports Leaders and Student Mediators – continue to provide support to peers during recess and lunch and major events.

Up for review in 2001.
