The
Artists in Schools program provides funding to government
schools throughout the state to assist with the engagement
of professional artists to work with students on
school-based projects.
An
example of work produced within the Artists in Schools
program is the Textiles
exhibition, opened in March 2005.

Department of Education, with the support from Hydro
Tasmania and Festivals Australia.
In 2005, students in schools
around the state worked on a range of visual arts
projects.

in Schools Register:
The
Artists in Schools Register is a database of artists who
are willing to work in schools.
Secondary Music Scholarships
The
Department of Education of Education offers 40
scholarships to students in government high schools
state-wide. Students can apply in Grade 7, 8 or 9 and
successful applicants hold their scholarship until the end
of Year 10, subject to these conditions:

the
student studies music to the end of Year 10
-
the
student contributes to the school's music program
-
the
student submits satisfactory reports from both the school
and a private music tutor annually.
The scholarship makes a cash grant of $495.00 annually,
paid at the beginning of each school term ($165.00 each
payment) to a nominated family bank account.
Applications are called at the beginning of Term 3 each
year. Applicants submit an information form, with a
recommendation from the school, and an audition tape or
CD.
